The Adjusted (1969)
Directed by Bryce Malek; Starring Thomas McHenry, Duane Semler, Mary
Beth Franz, David Foland, Beth Lunan, Chris Lunan, with stand-ins Paul Fiester
and Robert Malek. Based on a 1966
short story by Kenneth Bulmer. In
a futuristic dystopia, family are housed in primitive cells and are
electronically hypnotized to believe they are living in a 20th
Century American middle-class lifestyle.
Ironically, their captors, who are commenting on their situation, are
also hypnotized to believe in a dual reality of their own. Super8mm, color, sound. 12:02.
The idea for this film was suggested by Tom McHenry, who also starred in it. Two of the actors who played children cannot be identified. The film suffered from production problems, including substitution of cast members in silhouette, as well as sound recording difficulties.
